Royal Witch is trapped in a bottle
You may have heard of a ship in a bottle, but have you ever heard of a witch in a bottle? This is the story of a very troubled witch.
At St. Peter's Priory in Dunstable, on a cold winter morning, a local woman named Sally was condemned by the Priory monks for witchcraft. She was burned slowly at the stake. His cat and broom suffered the same fate.
But Sally didn't choose to go quietly like some people did. He died loudly, screaming and cursing to his last breath. She threatened terrible revenge on the monks who had condemned her.
The monks quickly discovered that Sally had many more problems dead than when she was alive! Mysterious things began to happen. Invisible hands boxed the monks ears; the candles on the church altar flickered and spat with an evil green glow.
Where Sally's ghostly fingers touched the prayer books, the covers were burned. The monks could not pray in peace or sleep at night. I was driving them crazy!
An exorcist was finally called to exorcise Sally's ghost at a special church service, but the troublesome witch still did not leave in silence.
When the exorcist began the service, he was hit on the head with a powerful force that threw him to the ground. As the stunned exorcist struggled to his feet, the congregation froze in fear as the witch's threatening laughter echoed from the beams above.
But the exorcist himself was cunning and finally made fun of the witch by putting a witch's decoy in a bottle. The lure was a secret mixture, known only to a few, of herbs and potions. It was very much like a witch's spell!
The lure was so strong that it soon attracted the witch's attention and when Sally's curious ghost went to investigate, the exorcist pressed the cork against the bottle! He warned her that the bottle should never be broken or the witch would escape and take terrible revenge on everyone.
The bottle was buried in a secret place on the grounds of the priory, only to ensure that no friend of the witch could recover it. However, since no one knew where he was buried, it was said that there were no more burials in the priory cemetery, in case the buried bottle broke accidentally, freeing the ghost of the evil witch of Dunstable.
As far as we know, strange bottles have never been unearthed near the old priory, but if you are in the area, remember to step on it very, very carefully.
